Praises Matt Drudge as an innovator who breaks down censorship

Libertarianism is ‘The only hope as far as electoral politics’ - says Wikileaks’ Julian Assange?

The right tends to hate Julian Assange. They think he's some kind of mastermind spy, whose constant probing has caused a lot of U.S. black eyes. The left, for the very same reason, tends to love him. They see him as an anti-establishment freedom fighter who shares their "America-is-the-problem" vision.
Fans that they are, the lefties are not going to love Assange's latest proclamation. During a Google hangout with Campus Reform, he was asked about the recent growth of Libertarianism in younger voting blocs. Assange said “The only hope as far as electoral politics… presently, is the libertarian section of the Republican Party.” “The libertarian aspect of the Republican Party is presently the only useful political voice really in the U.S. Congress,” Assange continued. “[I] am a big admirer of Ron Paul - and Rand Paul - for their very principled positions in the U.S. Congress on a number of issues.”

He went on to praise Rand Paul's nonviolent positions on drone warfare, illegal government killings, and even federal extortion of taxes. As if that's not bad enough, Assange also spent some time praising the man liberals consider to be public enemy number one: The Drudge Report's Matt Drudge. The mainstream media is mired in "self-censorship," Assange complained, and Drudge has found a way to break through it. "Matt Drudge is a news media innovator," he said. "It is as a result of the self-censorship of the establishment press in the United States that gave Matt Drudge such a platform ...and so of course he should be applauded for breaking a lot of that censorship. ...His political opinions, some I agree with, some I don't.” Now, clearly, Assange isn't exactly the patron saint of conservatism. His crusade against "income inequality" is the kind of socialist dogma that makes capitalists want to wretch, while his constant desire to paint the U.S. as the enemy of planet Earth is simplistic, wrong-headed, and myopic in the extreme. Any Republican (Libertarian or otherwise) who would fully embrace him should have his head examined. Still, it's interesting to see that one of the far-left's patron saints has thrown some sand in the face of his most liberal pro big-government supporters.
