Nancy Pelosi, Syria
Until she had what some call a “non-existent” conversation with her 5-year-old grandson, Nancy Pelosi’s go-to guy on Syria was President Bashar al-Assad.
Pelosi told reporters she consulted with her 5-year-old grandson about whether or not to support intervention in Syria. When as Speaker of the House Pelosi met with Assad in Damascus in 2007, she was accused outright by the White House as “undermining efforts to isolate the hard-line Arab country.” (Reuters, April 4, 2007). “Pelosi said Assad assured her of his willingness to engage in peace talks with Israel, and that she and other members of her congressional delegation raised their concern about militants crossing from Syria into Iraq, as well (as) the Israeli soldiers kidnapped by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and the Palestinian group Hamas. “We were very pleased with the assurances we received from the president that he was ready to resume the peace process. He’s ready to engage in negotiations for peace with Israel,” Pelosi said.

“Pelosi’s visit to Syria was the latest challenge to the White House by congressional Democrats, who are taking a more assertive role in influencing policy in the Middle East and the Iraq war.” Said President George W. Bush of the Pelosi Syrian trip at the time: “A lot of people have gone to see President Assad. He hasn’t responded. Sending delegations doesn’t work. It’s simply been counterproductive.” Secretary of State John Kerry, whose pictures with wife Teresa dining with Mr. and Mrs. Assad went viral on the Internet, is not the only high-ranking Obama supporter who dines with dictators. When in Damascus, Pelosi and accompanying members of Congress began their day by holding separate talks with Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and Vice President Farouk al-Sharaa and then met Assad, who hosted them for lunch after their talks. (Source Watch) Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), the late Tom Lantos (D-Calif), Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.), Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.), David Hobson, formerly (R-Ohio) and Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) joined the Assad-hosted lunch. A brazen and overbearing Pelosi had the audacity to speak for Israel in her meeting with Assad, prompting Israel to clarify the pre-conditions to peace talks. On April 5, 2007, in a telephone interview with Rush Limbaugh, Vice President Dick Cheney criticized Pelosi’s statements to the Syrian president as “nonsensical” and constituting “bad behavior”. Wearing a maple-leaf decorated head scarf and a black abaya robe, Pelosi visited the 8th-century Omayyad Mosque during her 9-day goodwill trip. She made the sign of the cross in front of an elaborate tomb which is said to contain the head of John the Baptist. President Bashar al-Assad, incidentally is an Alawite, following a sect that holds women have no souls. Pelosi also met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah during her 2007 Mid-East trip. Embarking on the trip within two months of becoming Speaker of the House, Pelosi’s portfolio as Speaker was a 4-year reign of spite with insults hurled at any Americans who dared to disagree with her. Meanwhile, as for Pelosi’s fellowship with Muslim and Palestinian leaders, perhaps the last word belongs to Michael John McCrae, who wrote in "Nancy Pelosi-Sleeping With The Enemy" for Conservative Voice: "When Islam declares victory over America I fully expect to see Nancy Pelosi wearing a head scarf in the halls of congress."
