Apparently I am a threat to civilized society

USA Today: The IRS is scared of little old . . . Herman Cain?

I don't mean to minimize the threat the IRS poses to liberty. It's huge. They have virtually unchecked power to harass Americans, and that's the direct result of a tax code that seeks to manipulate Americans behavior, thus empowering the IRS to snoop on us and see if we're complying with the manipulation as politicians intend.

But at the same time, sometimes the IRS is so prepoterous that I can't help but laugh myself silly at them. Like yesterday, when I learned from USA Today that the IRS had gotten its knickers in a twist over a 2010 event in which the Roane Tea Party held an event featuring . . . me. The story explained that 80 percent of groups targeted by the IRS for their political activities were conservative, and an IRS internal communique flagged events by conservative groups featuring Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Chris Christie, and yep, even me. Now put this in perspective. The event referenced happened in March 2010. At the time, I had not yet become a candidate for president. I hadn't even said anything about running for president. I was hosting a local radio show in Atlanta on one station, WSB, and I was writing a syndicated column that was published in a handful of newspapers. Why would the IRS get excited about the fact that the Roane County Tea Party had me as a speaker in March 2010? Then again, I should know better than to ask that question. After I spoke out publicly against HillaryCare in the 1990s, the IRS got very excited about me - so excited that it launched an audit that lasted several years and cost me a lot of money getting legal and tax assistance, and ultimately found that I had complied with all tax laws. Of course. Look folks, I am proud of my platform on my radio show and on this web site, and I do think I make some difference, but I'm still just citizen Herman Cain. If the IRS gets that worked up because someone asks me to speak at their event, maybe they lack the perspective to do us that much harm. Seriously. You people are scared of little old me? That's funny.
