Pete King calls Ted Cruz a ‘fraud’ engaged in ‘governmental terrorism’

Yesterday, I wrote that the old guard RINO wing of the GOP was collapsing because the base had aligned itself with politicians willing to place principle above party. As if on cue, a who’s who of go-along-to-get-along Republicans has crawled out of the woodwork. First up, we had John McCain. He was angry, but his diatribe was nothing compared to the double-barreled rage-fest being employed by New York Republican Rep. Pete King.
Yesterday, King (who's still considering a 2016 presidential run) spoke with the always-unbiased New York Times. During his interview, he called Cruz a "fraud" and referred to his anti-Obamacare crusade as “just a form of governmental terrorism.” King told the Times he still wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, but he wants to do it the old-fashioned way - by passing bills in both houses of Congress and getting the President to sign them. The fact that Cruz is willing to play hardball is deeply upsetting, and it's making things tough for those who'd rather just let things play out. King moaned that his fellow House members are actually being forced to listen to their constituents - and that's such a hassle.
“A lot of them are intimidated by the Ted Cruz wing. There were robocalls and efforts in districts throughout the country during August against Republicans - telling them why they had to support defunding Obamacare."

“What do you accomplish? You build up this mailing list for Cruz, and a fund-raising list. And you also are going to generate primaries against people who I would consider to be good Republicans, pretty solid conservative Republicans.” As if this wasn't enough, today he continued his tirade on MSNBC, where he told the "Morning Joe" crowd that Cruz is a "false leader." “I don’t think it is possible to heal tensions with Ted Cruz,” King said. “Hopefully we can heal tensions with some of his supporters. The reason I say that is that he seems intent on doing whatever he has to do without regard to either the party or, quite frankly, to the Senate. So I think what we have to do is reach out to his people and let them know that they are following a false leader here.” King is also offended by the vehemence with which conservatives have been conducting themselves. “I haven’t heard such vile, profane, obscene language,” he said. “I’m not saying that Ted Cruz is responsible for all his supporters, but he has tapped into a dark strain in the American political psyche.” Poor ol' Pete King. He just doesn't understand that Cruz's nasty habit of fighting for principle “without regard to the party" is exactly why Cruz is so popular. If he thinks his party is angry, he's right. The base is 100% fed up with the half-hearted, whiny, elites - like Pete King - who refuse to stand up for the ideology they allegedly support. The cranky sound you're hearing from people like McCain and King? It's the death rattle of the "old way of doing things." No one gives a damn if the Obamacare fight makes life difficult for their elected officials, and complaining about it will only hasten their descent into the obscure scrap heap of GOP history.
