Detroit police chief: Legal gun owners can deter crime

LA Top Cop Relocates to Maine, Learns Truth About Armed Citizens

Sometimes it takes a while for the factual truths to emerge, but they usually always do. Take the case of police officer James Craig, who began his career in one of America's hottest or hot-beds, Los Angeles. Officer Craig spent 28 years in that venue and was an avowed supporter of gun control which in that heavily crime infested city.
It wasn't until Craig relocated all the way across the country to the State of Maine that the factual truths about gun control caught up with him and converted his orientation of disapproval of freedom to carry a weapon by an average citizen to that of being fully cooperative of that process. Since that epiphany (in the secular sense not necessarily with divine intervention) Craig has moved on from Chief of Police of Portland, Maine, to the far more fractious and unlawful city of Detroit, Michigan, also as Chief of Police, where his new orientation of gun possession advocacy for the public as a tool to deter crime will be administered. Ironically, Craig began his career in law enforcement in the city of Detroit as a rookie in 1977, so he will be no stranger to the workings and machinations of the criminal element as well as the law-abiding sector which is dwindling in numbers as city residents due to the high crime rate of that city.

Detroit police chief: Legal gun owners can deter crime

On January 3, 2014, the Detroit News published an online article by George Hunter, titled "Detroit police chief: Legal gun owners can deter crime" which stated, "If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Thursday." Hunter went on to say, "Urban police chiefs are typically in favor of gun control or reluctant to discuss the issue, but Craig on Thursday was candid about how he's changed his mind." "When we look at the good community members who have concealed weapons permits, the likelihood they'll shoot is based on a lack of confidence in this Police Department," Craig said at a press conference at police headquarters, adding that he thinks more Detroit citizens feel safer, thanks in part to a 7 percent drop in violent crime in 2013. Craig's experiences while police chief in Maine gave him the belief that legal gun owners can deter crime saying, "Coming from California, where it takes an act of Congress to get a concealed weapon permit, I got to Maine, where they give out lots of CCWs (carrying concealed weapon permits), and I had a stack of CCW permits I was denying; that was my orientation. "I changed my orientation real quick. Maine is one of the safest places in America. Clearly, suspects knew that good Americans were armed." As might be expected, the wussy classes of 'nay-saying nannies' were ready to present their 'gloom and doom' utterings and Detroit News' George Hunter chose Robyn Thomas, director of the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence in San Francisco, who disagreed. "I think at its core, his position is an emotional one, based on the idea that people feel safer when they have guns. But studies have shown more guns don't deter crime," Thomas said. "There's no research that shows guns make anyone safer, and it does show that the more guns in any situation, the higher the likelihood of them harming either the owner, or people who have access to them." Well, if that isn't the epitome of what's wrong with liberals and their "sky is falling" pleadings and pitiful 'wussiness' syndrome. Robin Thomas is probably an offspring of the infamous "Doubting Thomas" seeing gloom and failure in anything more dangerous than a wren's feather. She spouts without any credence or reference that there is "no research that shows guns make anyone safer" lament or the higher the likelihood that they (guns) will harm either the owner of those with access to them wimpishness. I could make similar assertions to the other side of that sad and mournful warning of fear and dread, but I will just say that for every one of the wimpy reasons against gun ownership I'd bet that I could find two that show favorable stats in ridding ourselves of the now saturated areas of crime in just the illusionary pretense of merely the presence of a gun. I would even hazard a guess that many robberies have been successful where the criminal puts his hand in his jacket pocket with a menacing looking finger pointing at the victim and demanding cash etc. Most criminals are cowards to begin with and are quick to back down in the presence of a perceived weapon. The most common conception of the ilk of wusses who wish to take guns illegally from citizens who are protected by the Second Amendment of the U. S. Constitution has to be the fear of those legal weapons being used against illegal actions such as overthrow of the country's legal governance or illegal incarceration of those who oppose tyranny in high offices of government. George Hunter of the Detroit News finished his article by providing more disagreement with obviously anti-American Liberal Democrat Robyn Thomas of Nancy Pelosi's out-of-sight Liberal Democrat Congressional District. "According to a March 2013 anonymous poll of 15,000 officers by the law enforcement website policeone.com., almost 90 percent of the respondents believed casualties would be decreased if armed citizens were present during shooting incidents, while more than 80 percent supported arming teachers who were trained with firearms. "Although Craig said more responsible gun owners would likely lower crime, in the past he also has called for a ban on assault weapons, regulating high-capacity magazines, tighter restrictions on Internet ammunition sales and more stringent background checks for merchants who sell firearms at gun shows. "Detroit police have reported 73 justifiable homicides in the city since 2011. The number in 2013 was 15, down from 25 the previous year." I can fully understand why the Lib Dems have to lie to support their lust for taking away guns from the public. If you were planning a seditious action against the law-abiding people of the country you wouldn't want your opponents to have weapons they could use on you; and that's their beef; pure and simple. Take their weapons and they will have to resort to sticks and stones. Well, many battles have been won with less. So, take heart brothers, right will win over wrong every time; and the RIGHT is right. NOTE: In the latest online Rasmussen Public Opinion Polls dated January 04, 2014, 68% of the voters would feel safer instead living in a neighborhood in which you could have a gun for your own protection than in one where guns aren't allowed.
