It did not take long to realize that MAIG's agenda was much more than ridding felons of illegal guns; that under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens. I don't believe, never have believed and never will believe that public safety is enhanced by encroaching on our right to bear arms, and I will not be a part of any organization that does.
Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence, an organization he hopes can eventually out-muscle the National Rifle Association. According to the New York Times piece, the former mayor is, at 72, starting to feel his mortality. Fortunately, he thinks the smiling eyes of the Almighty are upon him. He's decided that God hates guns just as much as he does, and his fight has earned him a one way ticket to paradise.
"I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I'm not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It's not even close."Yeah. Hubris is always a one-way ticket to eternal reward. Asked for comment, Bloomberg offered the following:
