Secretly seething from being demoted from House Speaker to House Minority Leader ever since January 3, 2011, Nancy Pelosi has been on the prowl for attention-grabbing ways to preen her peacock wings to the world.
So today Pelosi is taking the opportunity of swooping back into the limelight by traveling to the southern border of the U.S. to be briefed by Customs and Border Protection on the flood of unaccompanied minors entering the country. “The California Democrat will also meet with a group of children held at the South Texas Detention Facility.” (Politico, June 26, 2014) Here’s a taste of the overblown rhetoric in a crisis caused by the Democrats who later come around to collect kudos for the very crisis they caused:
“The humanitarian crisis unfolding across our nation’s southern border demands Congress come together and find thoughtful, compassionate and bipartisan solutions,” Pelosi said. “We must ensure our laws are fully enforced, so that due process is provided to unaccompanied children and the safety and well-being of unaccompanied children is protected. We must also work to address the root causes of the problem.” “More than 50,000 unaccompanied children from central America have crossed the border into the United States since last October, but federal law says the U.S. cannot immediately turn the minors away if they are from non-contiguous countries such as Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.”

Take them home, Nancy, you are still No. 13 in the top richest House members. “Thanks to the gains she saw in 2010, the House minority leader maintains her status as one of the richest members of Congress, despite a big drop in her wealth in 2011.(The Hill.com) “Pelosi’s minimum net worth fell from $35.2 million in 2010 to $26.4 million in 2011. “Thanks to the gains she saw in 2010, the House minority leader maintains her status as one of the richest members of Congress, despite a big drop in her wealth in 2011. “Much of the drop can attributed to two mortgages that were listed on her 2011 form. The loans, worth at least $6 million, were listed for properties in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco. “Some of the assets owned by Pelosi’s spouse, Paul, lost value last year. His partnership in Matthews International Capital Management, worth at least $5 million in 2010, is now worth nothing, and his investment in undeveloped real estate in Sacramento, Calif., went from being worth at least $5 million to at least $1 million. “Paul Pelosi is a major backer of the United Football League, with partnership stakes in teams in Jacksonville, Fla., and Sacramento, Calif., worth a minimum of $6 million.” With the incredible wealth Pelosi and her husband accumulated--much of it during her tenure as a politician--she could certainly afford to spring for the 42,000 pairs of underwear needed for the border kids. Since the rush of children has turned into a crisis for Customs and Border Protection, which does not have the capacity to house the children for the 72 hours before they are transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services to await an immigration hearing”, allowing them to pitch up at he Pelosi mansion would be a humanitarian effort in spades providing the “due process” Pelosi wants provided to unaccompanied children. DHS says thousands of pairs of underwear, mostly in sizes medium and large, but some as large as 6XL, are needed for the homeless border children. Surely this should pose no problem for Pelosi, who loves shopping as much as political rhetoric. It might be a big comedown having to shop for underwear for the woman who featured paper napkins embossed in gold with the words ‘Speaker Pelosi January 4, 2007’ for attendees at her inauguration dinner to “wipe their lips with paper napkins while nibbling on goat cheese ravioli with pumpkin and truffle”. (Washington Post, Jan. 5, 2007). The lavish, $1,000-a-ticket dinner was straight out of Cleopatra Comes to Washington and some of the Pelosi acting of Hollywood Oscar calibre: “The speaker, with a grandchild on her lap, also sang along to Carole King's performance of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." Guests heard former members of the Grateful Dead sing “Truckin” and Tony Bennett sing “I Left M Heart in San Francisco”. "Democrats are back!" Pelosi said in her remarks during the few minutes reporters were permitted inside. "We are ready to lead, prepared to govern and determined to make you proud." Too bad the children meeting with the high-flying Pelosi today don’t realize they are nothing but pawns in yet another Democrat devised political ploy, something like the pretend ceremony following Pelosi’s inauguration dinner: “The Jan. 4 gavel-passing will officially install her as speaker, the highest office ever attained by a female elected official in the U.S. She will set out her agenda in a speech to the House, then avail herself for the traditional photo session that gives the 434 other House members and their families a chance to have their picture taken with Pelosi pretending to swear them in. That, little children, is the Democrat fairytale-turned-nightmare of the promise with which your trusting parents were lured to send you off to the the Land of Milk and Honey and Nancy Pelosi at her best in the Big Ugly World of Pretend.
