Congratulations David Perdue . . . and Georgia voters, for seeing past the lies!

Georgia Senate runoff: Real solutions guy takes down the GOP establishment

As you know if you’ve been reading this site or listening to my radio show, I supported businessman David Perdue in his quest for the Georgia U.S. Senate nomination, particularly in his runoff battle against Jack Kingston on the Republican side.
So needless to say, I’m pretty excited this morning to see that Perdue won last night’s runoff and will face Democrat Michelle Nunn in the fall. This was really not a race between conservative vs. RINO or Tea Party vs. whatever else. Jack Kingston’s voting record in Congress was not bad at all, and his voting record in the Senate would probably have been good as well. Rather, this was a race between the Republican establishment trying to protect its own, and someone from outside the political class wanting an opportunity to go to Washington and push for real solutions to this nation’s problems.

As I’ve outlined several times, the establishment went all in against Perdue with its tried-and-true tactics of misleading the voters about Perdue, his background and his positions. Yesterday these tactics were officially rejected by Georgia voters, who were able to recognize a candidate who represents their real priorities and values. And this was all so unnecessary. There is no reason for groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to take sides in a primary race between two pro-business candidates, especially when one of them comes from the business community itself. And there certainly is no need to engage in simple dishonesty. People in the political world, as well as governmental affairs types who work for interest groups, get comfortable with certain people because they become familiar with them, and that sometimes leads them to do pretty crazy things in an attempt to bar outsiders who might not play the game in the same way they are used to. Up until now, this kind of nonsense has worked pretty well, and as we saw a few weeks back in Mississippi, sometimes it still works. But things are changing, partly because we now have alternative media sources like this one to tell you the truth when those dishonest campaign flyers are going around. I want to congratulate the voters of Georgia, not only for giving the Republican nomination to a good man in David Perdue, but also for thinking for themselves and seeing through the lies. Let the Republican establishment take a lesson from this: The real, honest case for conservative candidates is a perfectly good one. Just make that case. Don’t tell lies about good men and women who don’t happen to be part of your club. That’s how you’ll improve the quality of the club, and ultimately the quality of the country.
