Son of Hamas founder explains why Israel's 'peaceful coexistence' with Hamas is impossible

UPDATE: Yes, we're aware that Yousef is not "squeaky clean." He's made statements that indicate - despite his spying - that he's no fan of Israel, and bemoans the Israeli "occupation." However, none of that detracts from his assessment of Hamas' goals and methods. He can despise Israel all he likes, he's still exposing the truth of how Hamas views its relationship with the rest of the world. Obviously, by now, you've heard the calls for Israel to stand down in its current conflict with Gaza. Everywhere you turn, Hamas apologists are making the same claim. Israel is barbaric, and needs to end its vicious attacks. Never mind that the rocket attacks are ongoing and, please, ignore the fact that Hamas keeps violating cease-fires. Israel is the alleged problem.
If only they'd just embrace a peaceful coexistence with their neighbors, we could put all this ugliness behind us. So why won't that work? Well, let’s ask Mosab Hassan Yousef. He's the son of a Hamas founder and was being groomed for a leadership position in his father's organization. Instead, he defected. During the second intifada he rejected the role he was supposed to play and spent a decade spying on Hamas for Israeli intelligence. Eventually he found asylum in the United States and converted to Christianity. He's since become a New York Times best-selling author by writing about his own experiences. He appeared with CNN's Don Lemon, and explained why peace with Hamas is simply an impossibility.

"Hamas does not care about the lives of Palestinians - does not care about the lives of Israelis or Americans. They don’t care about their own lives. They consider dying for sake of their ideology a way of worship. Hamas is not seeking coexistence and compromise. Hamas is seeking conquest and taking over. ...And by the way, the destruction of the state of Israel is not the Hamas’ final destination. Hamas' final destination is building the Islamic caliphate - which means an Islamic state on the rubble of every civilization. These are the ultimate goals."
Lemon asked Yousef about his experiences growing up as part of Hamas.
"In the mosques, Hamas taught us that without shedding innocent blood for the sake of the ideology, we wouldn't be able to build an Islamic state. They were preparing us from the age of as young as five-years-old. This is the ideology that Hamas was feeding us. ...And honestly it's impossible almost for anybody to break through and see the truth and real face of Hamas and be able to leave at some point. As you see in my case, I had to lose everything just to say no to Hamas. Today as I look at the children of Gaza, and I know what they are fed, I know that they had no choice."
In other words, as Benjamin Netanyahu famously said: "If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more ‎violence. If the Jews put ‎down their weapons ‎today, there would be no? ‎more Israel"
