National Post column: Learn Islam or die!

On Aug. 29 the National Post, one of Canada’s two national newspapers, published an opinion piece by Afsun Qureshi, whoever that is.
A Muslim, Qureshi writes about the Islamic prayer of shahadah. According to the column, the shahadah should be recited by Muslims if they know they are dying. The shahadah affirms the fact Allah is the one true god and Mohammed is his prophet. Who other than Muslims should care about this you might ask. Well, Qureshi then fast forwards to last year’s terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Kenya. The terrorists (or militants as the squeamish mainstream media calls them) instructed people to prove they were Muslims. Those who could not were killed or wounded.

In the end, 67 people died and close to 200 were injured. Al-Shebaab, the al Qaeda-like affiliate in Somalia took responsibility for the attack upon innocent shoppers and said it was in retaliation for Kenya having sent troops into Somalia. The deployment of troops into Somalia was more than enough justification for the warriors of the religion of peace to attack innocent civilians. Anyone who could recite the shahadah or Koranic voices was presumed to be Muslim and therefore spared from death or injury. Qureshi then comes up with a nifty idea; everyone should learn the shahadah and the Koran in case they wind up coming face to face with some head choppers. Then they will be able to survive. The really offending portion of the column is as follows: “After that [the Westgate Mall incident], many Muslims, myself included, wondered: Should we—Muslim or not—learn the basis of Islam and have a read through the Koran? If one of us ever finds herself in a situation similar to Westgate Mall victims, could even a rudimentary knowledge of Islam save us?” [Emphasis added] Although Qureshi is not suggesting the kaffirs actually must convert to Islam or die or at least have to pay a tax, she comes close. As the writer lives in Canada where she indeed has a right to voice her opinion, the fact that a mainstream national Canadian publication would publish it is a disgrace. Despite the tendency of irrelevancy that the old media has been trending to, people still read newspapers to learn things, to help them in their day to day lives. What this article instructs people to do is to submit to Islam. The onus is on everyone else to appease the religion of peace by being able to recite Koranic verses and prayers in order to survive. The fact people are killed by Islamic extremists is their fault because they just did not know enough about Islam. Qureshi also blames non-Muslims for terrorism by not knowing enough about Islam to be able to have discussions with those who have been radicalized. Whatever happened to all these peaceful moderate Muslims we are always hearing about? They surely have some understanding of Islam but we rarely hear of them speaking out against terrorism. And when they do, it is usually to tell the infidels that the barbaric acts of their co-religionists have absolutely nothing to do with Islam. Qureshi also gave the peaceful Muslim excuse for terrorism by saying although some verses in the Koran are violent, others are peaceful. Many National Post readers, or what is left of them, commented on the article. While some people praised it, others understood what its true meaning was. Some said if they convince Muslims that they are in fact Muslims that is no really different than actually becoming a Muslim. Others said they would rather die or kill than to submit to Islam which is exactly what the NP is suggesting. Protect yourself from Islamic radicals by converting or at least convincing the terrorists that you are one. It seems some of the commentators actually do know a few things about Islam. It was pointed out by more than one commentator that the earlier verses in the Koran tended to be about peace while later verses preached violence against non- believers. If everyone is like the National Post editor or editors who okayed this column, the radicals can take comfort in the fact their caliphate will soon be a reality in Canada. Luckily not everyone bows in submission to Muslims including those who are radicalized. One can only speculate what the National Post will publish next. Perhaps they could get serial killer Paul Bernardo to pen a column about how teen girls can protect themselves by not walking alone on a city sidewalk during the middle of the day. By publishing this piece, the National Post has insulted every single Canadian who is not a Muslim and does not want to be told to become one.
