Eric Holder's Department of Justice (DOJ) has told police to quit wearing "I am Darren Wilson" bracelets
The story has faded from the headlines, as Islamic terrorists and Ebola take center stage. But constant cries from the media about the racist "militarized police" in Ferguson, Missouri have had their intended effect--more violence against police officers, including one actually shot, as well as more federal interference with our local police agencies.
Now, in an extraordinary development, Eric Holder's Department of Justice (DOJ) has
told police to quit wearing "I am Darren Wilson" bracelets in solidarity with the police officer facing political persecution from the DOJ.
"Residents observed that these bracelets upset and agitated people," said Christy E. Lopez, Deputy Chief of the Special Litigation Section in the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice. "We were shown pictures of officers wearing these bracelets."
In fact, however, it's not clear who was
pictured wearing the bracelets. The photos showed wrists. It's also not clear where the feds get the authority to tell local police what to wear on the job.
On the other hand, a black police officer has been
photographed marching with protesters declaring, "Stop Police Terror," in solidarity with Michael Brown. The sign in the photo is from the "ANSWER coalition," an outgrowth of the communist Workers World Party.
Hans A. von Spakovsky, a Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, reported for PJ Media that DOJ official Lopez gave $750 to Barack Obama during his 2008 run for office, and that she contributed another $500 to Democratic Senator Michael Bennet from Colorado. He
said that before she arrived at DOJ, "she served on the ACLU of Maryland's Committee on Litigation and Legal Priorities. She also was vice president and a member of the Board of Directors of Casa de Maryland, a radical organization deeply hostile to immigration enforcement."
Lopez
appeared at a 2010 convention of the National Lawyers Guild (NLG), the old Communist Party front, to discuss "police accountability." Last year she
appeared at an all-day conference entitled, "Holding Police Accountable in the Court Room and Beyond," also sponsored by the NLG.
The odds appear to be stacked against justice for the officer, but a "Support Darren Wilson"
Facebook page continues to generate support.
Columnist Sylvia Thompson, a black conservative writer, is taking issue with the attacks on the police in Ferguson, saying, "It's very easy for people who seldom face life-threatening circumstances at the hands of criminals to take pot shots at the police..."
In a recent column, "
It's time to wake up, white America," she takes issue with the libertarian scare mongering about "militarized police." She says, "Libertarians tend to be elites who live nowhere near inner-city communities. They are more likely to be in gated facilities or areas so financially set that crime is something they experience only in the news. They have the luxury of whining about how the police are equipped; the rest of us just want them equipped at their best, and armed to the teeth."
She adds, "I will give any cop the benefit of the doubt over any suspected crook, whatever his color, until I am given evidence to think otherwise."
Since she wrote her column, bottles and rocks continue to be thrown at officers in Ferguson, and one policeman has been shot.

As we noted in several columns, the attacks on the police in Ferguson were led by Radley Balko, the libertarian Washington Post blogger with a track record of writing erroneous columns on the subject. One of his columns
earned a 200-word correction in The Wall Street Journal. Nevertheless, he became a media celebrity for claiming that the Ferguson police were too heavily armed.
Balko was scheduled to appear with Edward Snowden mouthpiece Glenn Greenwald at Columbia University on October 18, at
an event sponsored by groups funded by George Soros and the Koch brothers. It has now mysteriously been postponed until next year.
"As of now," stated Jacob Hornberger of the Future of Freedom Foundation, "we are keeping the identity of the person who is underwriting the conference confidential. But that could change."
In Ferguson, it is apparent that the professional agitators will use any excuse to carry out violence.
"A day of unrest in Ferguson, Mo., began with the destruction of a memorial for Michael Brown and ended with another tense face-off between residents and police, underscoring the turmoil that still exists in the St. Louis suburb," The Washington Post
reported on September 24. The confrontation also included someone firing shots at police officers.
Perhaps the libertarians will now at least acknowledge the need for bullet-resistant vests.
Deep inside the article, it was noted that the burning candles usually surrounding the memorial may have started the fire. Time magazine
reported, "Firefighters investigating how the fire started found candles used at the memorial in the debris."
Yet, CNN's Wolf Blitzer called it a "mysterious fire."
Our media just have to keep Ferguson on edge.
They will get another chance to add gasoline to the fire when communists, agitators, and others hold an event, "Ferguson October: A Weekend of Resistance," throughout the weekend of October 10-13. It is described as an effort "to press the police and government for accountability and action in response to Mike Brown's death."
In addition to
planned participation by the Workers World Party and its front, the ANSWER Coalition, the Reverend Osagyefo Uhuru Sekou of the Fellowship of Reconciliation participated in a "faith-centered nonviolent direct action."
Moscow-funded Russia Today (RT) was in Ferguson
to cover the minister's arrest as he "rallied ministers calling for the arrest of Darren Wilson."
On October 1, the minister was scheduled to join Dr. Cornel West at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York for a "
Reflection on Ferguson" to "discuss the moral and sociological impacts of Michael Brown's death."
The question they are posing: "Where do we go from here?"
The answer: more anti-police violence and trumped-up murder charges against Officer Wilson.
It's time for supporters of our local police to resist the demands of the DOJ and the communist agitators.
Are the lives of police officers in Ferguson worth less than that of the President of the United States?
