I'm all for freedom of speech and respecting everyone's right to have and voice their own opinion. Given what I do for a living, it goes without saying that I do not believe the police are infallible. Sometimes they make mistakes. Sometimes they overreact. And sometimes, like all humans, they do wrong. But, they have an incredibly difficult and dangerous job. They're underpaid and unappreciated. They play a real life game that requires them to play constrained by a strict set of rules, while their opponents play constrained by no rules at all. Often times the stakes of this game are life and death, both for the citizens they are sworn to protect and for the police officers themselves. Thankfully, most of us will never truly understand what it means to be in a life or death situation, primarily because of the protection and safety provided to us by the police. Nevertheless, after the game there's a hundred of me waiting to play Monday morning quarterback from the safety of an office, a courtroom or a sofa, and attack every observation, every decision and every move the police made. That's our criminal justice system and that's the way it has to be. But this anti-police sentiment being fueled by the double standard we are seeing from some of our government and "community" leaders is shameful. Somehow, people are buying into this, and because of a few isolated incidents and a few rotten apples, the police in general have come to be perceived as the "bad guys". And it's not just a fringe group of people who are buying into this nonsense. It's people we all know and some we considered friends. Which brings me to my point...I'm so disgusted with some of the thoughtless and ignorant comments I'm seeing from some people who are my "facebook friends", that I just can't remain silent any more. Even in the wake of the cowardly ambush and execution of several cops who were doing nothing but their jobs, some people just keep bashing the police in general and can't even show sympathy for these completely innocent cops who were killed for no other reasons than the fact that they were on the streets to protect people from being victimized by thug criminals. You know who you are. So to those of my facebook "friends" who have spewed this ignorant, thoughtless, conspiracy theory, anti-police nonsense, you are lambs being led to slaughter by jerk off ignoramuses like Al Sharpton. This makes you more of a jerk off ignoramus than Al himself. I'll continue to respect your right to have and voice your opinion, but I don't want to see it or hear it if I don't have to. I'm unfriending you on facebook and, more importantly, in real life. And by the way, when you get robbed, burglarized or otherwise victimized by some thugs who play by no rules, don't call the evil police, call Al Sharpton. Dummies. The great irony in all this is that every cop I know and am friends with, even if they knew your attitude toward them and their brothers and sisters in law enforcement, would still put their lives on the line to protect your ignorant asses because it's their duty. It's called honor.Anyway, yeah, what he said. That's my cousin Vinny!
