Sigh: Another 'prayer breakfast,' another Obama shot at Christians

I guess the president still thinks we Christians are up on our high horse, because he couldn't pass up another opportunity to turn a "prayer breakfast" into a shot. And I'd argue this one was even worse because he didn't even try to explain what he meant.

He just took the shot, let it hang out there for a second and moved on. Sort of like ringing someone's doorbell and running, this is the intellectual depth of our fearless leader's disdain toward people of the faith he implausibly claims to embrace as his own. The key moment comes at just about 10:00, although his disingenuous setup starts closer to 9:00. You can see that he's trying to set up Jesus as a guy who was just fine with everyone doing whatever they wanted to do, and you can just as clearly see that he thinks every Christian who refuses to accept someone else's immoral behavior is "less than loving": Obama makes it sound like he had a moment of weakness in going there, and that he just couldn't help himself. I don't think so. He says stuff like this for a reason. Obama is a terrible president but he is an excellent rhetorician, and he surely understands that an apparently throwaway line like this can get his left-wing, Christian-hating audience pretty excited - not to mention forwarding the media narrative of gay-hating Christians and all that. I've read items from people claiming to know that Obama hates these prayer breakfasts, which would make sense for a guy who pretends to be a Christian but doesn't really feel it in his heart. I have no doubt that he could fake it pretty convincingly if he wanted to, but I don't think he wants to because he knows that his base won't like it if he does. They prefer to see him take these little shots like he did in this case. Obama probably figures he has no choice if he wants to keep his base happy, but my guess would be that he would prefer to just avoid the setting altogether. And really, from the perspective of a Christian who values real prayer, I wouldn't miss them if they went away. I don't see much spiritual value in putting politicians on a podium and asking them to show their piety for a few hours or so, especially when so many of them are like Obama and are dragged there kicking and screaming. The nation is filled with people who understand the value of prayer and engage in it joyfully without having to be led into it by disingenuous politicians who only do it for show. And we don't need to be giving Obama any more opportunities to attack Christians with his words. He does it enough with his actions.
