Still trying to relate: Bill and Hillary work really hard, because they 'gotta pay the bills
Before Hillary Clinton officially launched her inevitable ascent to the Presidency, you'll recall that she was whining about being "dead broke."
If she was to be believed, she had endured a post-White House life akin to Sissy Spacek's meager existence in Coal Miner's Daughter. At the time she was promoting a book for which she received a 14 million dollar advance. It went on to sell, well... let's just say "not well." Hillary understood that being incredibly wealthy while carping about "money in politics" was a tone-deaf disaster. So, she drove a van across the country and ate at Chipotle. That, apparently, was supposed to make voters think she was a normal, down-to-Earth woman who was totally relatable. She's just like you. Unfortunately, intimations of influence peddling put the Clinton Foundation's finances in the headlines. All the burrito-eating in the world couldn't save Hillary from the "same old Clinton" stench. Bill suggested that - if his wife becomes the nominee - he might step down from his position at the Foundation to counter the obviously unfounded appearance of wrongdoing.

But, he said, he would still make paid speeches because "I gotta pay our bills." Yes, once again, the Clintons want you to know that they're struggling - just like you. ...And, just like you, Bill Clinton's speeches have netted the former first family over a hundred million dollars in 10 years. We're sure you can relate to their efforts to scrape by. As The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza tweeted: Yikes. If that's what it takes for these destitute hill-folk to "pay the bills," perhaps they should consider filling in the ce-ment pond. Keep in mind, this doesn't take into account Hillary's $200K paid speeches or the aforementioned book deal. These are just Bill's speaking fees. Now, as always, it's time to make sure you understand that we don't begrudge the Clintons their wealth. Bill has every right to charge whatever he wants for his speeches, and Hillary can do the same for her books. Heck. If they can double those fees, they should. Every single American should strive to earn as much as they can in exchange for their services. That's called "capitalism," and we love it. However, Hillary Clinton doesn't. She likes to claim that she's out to "topple" the so-called one percent, all while trying to seize power AS the one percent. ...And not even the morning crew at MSNBC can wrap their heads around it.
