Amazing . . . and he's expected to make a full recovery.

Wait . . . what? Doctors re-attach toddler's head after accident causes 'internal decapitation'

Like you probably, I had never before today heard of an "internal decapitation." But I suppose the meaning is clear enough. Without your head actually being ripped and physically separated from your body, the inside parts become detached and the effect is basically the same. But even if you or I had heard of that, it would never have occurred to us - would it? - that doctors could actually re-attach your head and you could make a full recovery.

The fact that they apparently now can is wonderful news for 16-month-old Jaxon Taylor of Australia, whose head was severed from his spine in a high-speed, head-on collision. This happened last month, and it led him to the care of Brisbane-based spinal care surgeon Geoff Askin, who decided that he could and should do what would once have been considered unimaginable for Jaxon. He re-attached his head (See Below) There is still a lot of work ahead for Jaxon, re-learning to walk, strengthening his muscles and working on his motor skills. But he has time. He's only 16 months old, and chances are he hadn't really mastered those things yet anyway. God has not only given us amazing bodies. He's also given us astonishing skill to care for others, in addition to the know-how to develop technology that can help us in doing so. Every advance of that technology and that skill is really a blessing, and it's awesome news that young Jaxon can look forward to a full and healthy life as a result. Speaking of which, the doctors apparently used one of Jaxon's ribs to reconstruct the vertebrae and re-connect it to the head. Amazing things have been done with ribs since . . . the beginning!
