Think mass shootings "should be politicized," champ? OK, here you go.

Roseburg gives Obama the non-welcome he asked for

The left and the media are trying to dismiss the protesters as rude "gun nuts," but you know that's not really what's at issue here. Had Obama not taken to his press room podium within hours of the shooting and brazenly politicized the shooting - even going so far as to say it "should be politicized" - the people in Roseburg, regardless of party, would see greet his visit at a nonpolitical one.

You might get the occasional crank who would let his feelings about Obama be known, but it would be nothing like this: (Scroll down for video) Note well, by the way, how the report implies that Obama kept politics out of it during the visit. That's not really true, and the video itself gives that away. By making reference to the need for some sort of action to prevent these shootings, then saying "today is about the families," Obama has in fact brought up the political fight he clearly intends to wage - even if his intention is to do it through executive orders. That's still a political fight. But come on, you say, wouldn't any other president give a fleeting nod to the need to "stop these tragedies" or whatever? Sure, probably. But any other president wouldn't have already laid blame to his political opponents and vowed to politicize people's deaths. That creates an entirely different context for what would otherwise have been a perfectly innocuous statement. You can't pretend he didn't make the first statement by way of shrugging off the second as meaningless. The bottom line is that Obama got the welcome he asked for. If you don't want protesters to show up during what should be a non-political, healing visit, then don't make it political. Obama just had to, because he knows no other way to do things. And here's the result. You can't blame the people of Roseburg for objecting when Obama decides to make their town a pretext for his partisan political nonsense, and if he's going to do that and then show up pretending to be President Healer, you can't blame them for letting him know they're not buying it.
