imageEverybody becomes a community organizer in Barack Obama’s America. Everybody meaning the roughly 7 million people called to public duty in the $6 billion National Service effort. Obama wants everybody made in his image in a plan that enshrines the “community organizer” as part of the U.S. pop culture. But members pressed into the service of the 1 million-strong Youth Brigade, sanctioned by “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE), will have none of the freedoms of the community organizer who started it all. There’s no room for God in Obama’s long promised Youth Brigade, no room to protest, petition, to boycott or to support a strike, and and loopholes to give its mandatory membership a pass.

Everybody in GIVE, HR 1388 in legislation, will follow the rules and you can bet next year’s crops that the letter O will be somewhere on this Army’s uniforms. Who will be pressed into the new army of community organizers? Obama’s plan requires anyone receiving school loans, among others to serve at least three months as part of the brigade. You can’t proselytize anybody while you’re in, but count on being proselytized by the time you’re out. Lofty in intent, HR 1388 touts aims to “leverage investments to increase State, local, business and philanthropic resources to address national and local challenges”, but is downright specific in what its members can and cannot do. “The Bill would forbid any student in the brigade to participate in “engaging in religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization,” (thevoicemagaine.com). That’s the new battle hymn of GIVE’s “Onward non-Christian Soldiers”. Among other house rules categorized under Prohibited Activities: A participant in an approved national service position may not engage in the following activities: Attempting to influence legislation. Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts or strikes. What’s good for ACORN is not good for GIVE. Section 120 of the Bill--already rubber-stamped by the Senate--describes in the “Youth Engagement Zone Program” how “service learning” will be “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.” “Criminal justice”, “environmental stewardship” and “public safety” are the subjects of this mandatory program. Everybody (everybody meaning some 7 million people) when you add in retired and other former law enforcement, fire, rescue and emergency personnel, baby boomers, and even the able bodied residents of senior citizen homes will be an Obama-like community organizer under GIVE. In other words, an Obama-styled army of community organizers modeled after Saul Alinsky’s “Peoples Organizations” without members ever knowing it. This `What’s-good-for-Barack-and-Michelle is what’s good for you’ directive came via a 321-105 margin vote when introduced to the floor of the House of Representatives. But its shelf life goes back to January 16, 2009. Company across the aisle when the National and community Service Act of 1990 was amended to expand and improve opportunities for service, and for other purposes in the Senate of the United States included bipartisan maverick Senator John McCain. The GIVE Act imposes the potty-trained politics of Barack and Michelle Obama on the timeworn tradition of America being a great nation of volunteers. The Act puts the finishing touches to Public Allies New Leadership for New times, modeled after Saul Alinsky’s “Peoples Organizations” and operating under Michelle Obama. According to a Fact Sheet about Public Allies, “President Obama was a member of the founding advisory board of the non-profit organization. Michelle Obama was the founding Executive Director of Public Allies Chicago from Spring, 1993 until fall 1996. She served on Public Allies national board of directors from 1997 until 2002. Obama was no longer on the board when Michelle was hired for the job. Meanwhile, welcome to the era of 7 million “Obamas” spreading the Saul Alinsky rule book coming soon to a community near you.

Senate Votes to Drastically Expand AmeriCorps

The Senate votes 78-20 to increase AmeriCorp, despite concerns from some conservatives that it could allow politically charged groups to benefit from extra funding. The Senate on Thursday approved a major national service bill that triples the AmeriCorps program, despite concerns from some conservatives that it could allow politically charged groups to benefit from extra funding. The Senate voted 78-20 to increase AmeriCorps to 250,000 from its current 75,000 positions. The legislation is expected to cost $6 billion over five years. More...
