Earth Hour is yet another empty gesture on the part of individuals whose smugness quotient exceeds their intelligence quotient

Keep the lights on!

Tonight the environmental whackos are urging everyone to turn off their lights for one hour in celebration of “Earth Hour”, a contrived and largely ineffectual exercise that enables liberals to celebrate their self-loathing and assuage their inherent guilt. Earth Hour is yet another empty gesture on the part of individuals whose smugness quotient exceeds their intelligence quotient.

While I am all in favour of preserving the environment, the Eco-movement, with its religious fervour, no longer deserves to be taken seriously. Assertions about imminent catastrophic global climate change are being questioned by thousands of reputable scientists, proving that the climate hysterics’ claims of a “scientific consensus” are laughable. What’s more, for every assertion of pending ecological catastrophe there is a voice of reason that offers a counterview and debunks much of the “science” used to promote the hysteria. Then there is the audacity of politicians referring to carbon dioxide as “pollution”. How can something that practically every living animal on the planet exhales harm the environment? If we accept the assertion that carbon dioxide is a “pollutant”, then isn’t it only a logical next step to the conclusion that some beings are less worthy of breathing than others? Or is that too much for the liberal brain to comprehend? What’s left is faith. Faith in the idea that the UN will do no wrong; faith in the idea that the IPCC’s alarmist report was written by scientists, rather than bureaucrats; faith that those scientists who do support the “consensus” are doing so out of honest conviction, rather than assurances that further funding will come their way; faith that the fear mongering practiced by so many leftist politicians is to save humanity rather than increase government revenues. Faith, like hope, isn’t something that should be used as a prime policy-making tool. And keeping your home dark for an hour tonight will accomplish nothing of a concrete nature, other than prove your gullibility.
