Says "only" losing five would be a "rosy" scenario

Midterms: Chris Matthews sees Dems losing as many as 10 seats in the Senate

Like every member of the left-wing media, Chris Matthews spends most of his time ranting and raving about "evil" Republicans. Conservatives want the elderly to die. Conservatives are racist. Conservatives hate the sick and the poor. You know the drill. If Matthews is to be believed, the only thing that can save humanity is the ideology espoused by like-minded far left Democrats.
It's insane, but, hey. That's Tingles for you. Unfortunately, it looks like reality is starting to seep through the cracks in the MSNBC host's shaky foundation. Yesterday, Matthews appeared on Meet The Press, and he was very worried about the 2014 midterms. For him, achieving "the best case scenario" would mean losing "only" five Senate seats. He calls that possibility "rosy," and laments the fact that it's easy to see Dems losing as many as ten.

Matthew's assessment (while it sounds good to me) poses an obvious question: If Republicans are so evil, so monstrous, and so far afield from the views of the American people, why is he so worried about such tremendous losses? According to people like Tingles, ObamaCare is popular, the recovery is a success, and the middle class has been healed by left-wing policies. If Democrats are right, they're a bunch of geniuses who've captured the heart of the electorate. Their incredible popularity should mean that voters are about to hand them control of the House. Instead Matthews is forced to admit just how bad their situation really is. Why the disconnect, Chris?
