All we seem to hear about voices raised in the columns and headlines that are in opposition to the travesty we know as the federal government. Those voices are needed and they are encouraged to continue.

We also need to give a great big hearty THANK YOU! To those people who are the ones that actually make the calls to their representatives in congress and the senate; the folks that do show up and speak out in town hall meetings, city council meetings and county hearings. I’ve read that to make an effective change, it only takes about three percent of any given population who will voice their opinion to sway the direction of government. If that is true then what does it say about the other ninety seven percent? It says that for whatever excuse is made, silence and fear of standing up for what is right is the norm. It does not take a lot of courage to write about how bad things are. That’s obvious. To tell the truth after due diligence is done to find the facts takes courage. Then to be willing to move beyond rhetoric to action is courageous leadership. Maybe that’s where the three percent comes into focus. I have seen news reports where those three percenters have been manhandled, pushed, shoved, threatened with arrest, even thrown in jail because they had the courage of their convictions and overcame fear, stood up and spoke out for what’s right. God bless them all. They are the ones that take the abuse so the other ninety seven percent can be saved from tyranny. To the ninety seven percenters I say this: You don’t have to exhibit that degree of commitment, but there is no excuse for you to not call your elected representatives to simply say you are against what’s going on in government. Did you ever wonder why politicians use polls to find out what might be a safe way to go is? It’s because nobody bothers to call their offices to tell them what their district residents want and what they think about. If you can’t even do that much….. Then shut up with your bellyaching drivel about how bad things are. You get exactly what you’re willing to put up with. Go back into your corner, suck your thumb and tug your ear as you pull up your security blanket. Richard Frank Wagoner Oklahoma
