The Constitutionalists are back.....

Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Mike Lee threaten filibuster 2.0: gun control

Shortly after he ended his epic 13 hour filibuster, Senator Rand Paul said that it was "just the beginning." He didn't elaborate, but you knew he was serious. The Constitutional fight was on. Now we know that he and his allies, Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, are ramping up for another battle.
This time, it's going to be over gun control. The Politico has obtained a letter, signed by the three Senators and directed to Harry Reid, which reads “We will oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions.” The message also promises intractability on "any legislation that would infringe on the American people's constitutional right to bear arms, or on their ability to exercise this right without being subjected to government surveillance." After spring break, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is expected to bring a new package of gun control legislation to the floor. It’s mainly designed to focus on background checks and interstate gun sales. However, conservatives, Libertarians, and non-RINO Republicans fear that, once he does, it could be amended to broaden its impact.

Specifically, Reid could allow amendments limiting magazine capacity and even banning certain "assault weapons." This, despite the fact that Reid stripped Feinstein's gun ban because he said he didn't have the votes to get it passed. “We can’t have votes on everything unless I get something on the floor,” Reid said at the time. Clearly, this statement leaves the door open for maneuvering once the bill is brought forward. While Paul, Cruz, and Lee never actually use the word "filibuster" in their letter, everyone knows exactly what they're talking about. Given that their Drone filibuster resulted in a 50 point public-opinion swing against the administration's targeted killing policy, it's not likely to be something Reid wants to see happen. The Letter is expected to land on Reid's desk sometime this morning.
