Trump eats a sammich at Mike Pence's house, buys himself a day of free media

OK, fine. I admit. I don't really know if they ate sandwiches. However, I do know that Donald Trump and his closest, top-level, family advisors spent the morning chatting with Pence in the Indiana governor's mansion. If you believe the mainstreamers, this is almost certainly a signal that Pence will be named as Trump's VP - probably sometime Friday afternoon.
Oh, and it's also the most important meeting in the history of the world, deserving of wall-to-wall coverage and a full-fledged media circus. The Hill reported it this way:
Donald Trump and his children are meeting with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence on Wednesday as speculation builds that Pence may join Trump’s ticket. Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka's husband Jared Kushner met with Pence at his Indianapolis home Wednesday morning, according to NBC News. Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, joined them shortly after. Trump, who has been toying with the public over his VP pick, spent time with Pence on Tuesday at fundraisers, followed by dinner at the Conrad Hotel in Indianapolis, according to Bloomberg Politics. Pence is believed to be vying for the VP spot against other shortlisted candidates including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. Trump is expected to pick his running mate by the end of the week.

So, at least until Friday, the will-they-won't-they dance (and the speculation) continues. Frankly, if we weren't so close to the convention, I'd write the meeting off as another deft free-media ploy on the part of the Trump campaign. If you saw Major Garret's borderline hyperventilating on-scene reports, you know that Trump needs only life a finger to send the 24-hour news cycle scrambling. Given the Donald's brash attitude, some have suggested that Pence seems like an uncharacteristically boring choice. On the other hand, this is their second meeting in a week, and Trump has a long history of unforced errors and PR blunders. So a steady - if unexciting - VP may be exactly what his campaign needs. If the scuttlebutt is right, we'll know in two days. In the meantime, if Trump sneezes, we're sure the fine folks at NBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN will let us know.
