Lovely: ISIS beheads 86-year-old Paris priest in his own church

The Democratic National Convention is only one day old. So far, ISIS hasn't been mentioned a single time, nor has anyone talked about the importance of defending the free exercise of religion. Then again, why would either of those things happen? Democrats have no interest in fighting ISIS or any other practitioners of radical Islamic terrorism. And the vast majority of them detest Christianity. So you can see why an event like this would scarcely get their attention:
Assailants loyal to the slamic State forced an elderly priest to his knees before slitting his throat and took several worshippers hostage in a French church on Tuesday before police shot the attackers dead. It was the latest in a wave of attacks in Europe inspired by the Islamist militant group based in Iraq and Syria that is on the defensive against a U.S.-led military coalition in which France is a major partner. The knifemen entered the church during morning mass near the northern city of Rouen, northwest of Paris, killing Father Jacques Hamel, an 85-year-old parish priest, and taking four other people hostage, one of whom was seriously wounded. "They forced him to his knees and he tried to defend himself and that's when the drama began," Sister Danielle, who escaped as the attackers slayed the priest, told RMC radio. "They filmed themselves. It was like a sermon in Arabic around the altar," the nun added. Police shot the attackers dead as they emerged from the church in the Normandy town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray.

I eagerly await Anderson Cooper going to Paris, sticking microphones in people's faces and demanding to know if they consider themselves champions of the Christian people. As I've said in this space before, this is nothing less than evil on the rampage. It's not about guns. It's not about "discrimination." It's just pure unadulerated evil. And evil thrives only when ordinary people don't care to oppose it. Sometimes ordinary people get so comfortable with evil that they're even willing elect one of its chief practitioners president of the United States. But know this: Evil isn't going to stop if the leaders of nations don't consider it a priority to stop it. France is getting a reality check now, and to some degree is responding admirably, but the French political culture for decades turned a blind eye to this sort of thing and went out of its way to appease Islamic radicals. That is now the mindset of the party that's meeting in Philadelphia this week, and the murder of Father Hamel is not likely to change that in the slightest. These people are animals. And animals only run free when no one cares to put a stop to it.
