Captain Pelosi of the DNC airship "Hindenburg"

Tim Ryan (D-OH) says the Democrat party is 'in Oblivion'

If the name "Tim Ryan" sounds familiar to you, you're probably remembering the strange feeling you had when you realized there was still one sane Democrat in Washington. Oh sure, in terms of policy they're all nuts. Ryan is just as wrong as the rest of the Dems when it comes to his agenda.

Pelosi reigns as a crazy, out-of-touch, leftist hell-bent on incinerating her party's political Hindenburg

But he was coherent enough to warn his party that it was destroying itself. In fact, he tried to dethrone Nancy Pelosi as part of an effort to force his colleagues to change course. He was unsuccessful. Nancy Pelosi retained her leadership position and continued her reign as a crazy, out-of-touch, leftist hell-bent on incinerating her party's political Hindenburg. Yesterday, Ryan re-surfaced to remind everyone that he was right.

Ryan still toes the company line when it comes to attacking Trump, but he's absolutely right about Pelosi. She is, without question, an anchor around the ankle of a drowning movement. The problem Democrats have - and Ryan is illustrative of this - is that they can't change course. Their base is now composed entirely of hardcore left-wing elements. Any move to the center will further fracture their already battered constituency. At the same time, any move to further appease that base will continue to render them unelectable in all but a few urban counties. I've written this before, but it's still true: The DNC spent three decades catering to its own worst instincts and actors. It presented the bizarre, the unusual, and the radical as normal, while sacrificing influence in the nation's interior. Now, it has no way to walk back its pandering, and it's painted itself into a disastrously tight corner. ...All of which gives me a serious case of the warm fuzzies.
