And horrors, the pastor who leads the study actually believes what the Bible says

Left aghast that Trump cabinet members meet weekly for Bible study

It wasn't that long ago that the prevailing thought in America's culture would have seen a Bible study among cabinet members as a positive thing, such that even left-wing journalists who scoffed at it privately wouldn't cover it like a scandal because they'd know their readers wouldn't see it that way. The culture has changed a lot - maybe not as much as the left thinks it has, but enough that now when left-wing media outlets treat such a thing like an abomination, they're confident that their readers by-and-large will see it the same way. In other words, liberals now feel it's safe to rip on government officials for studying the Bible, instead of having to pretend they don't find it appalling.
But they have to be careful how they do it. If they slam cabinet members just for praying or reading the Bible, they're probably going too far and the vast majority of their readers and viewers will push back. So they have to present it as a story about "extremism." It's six of one, a half-dozen of the other though, because according to the left you're an extremist if you actually believe what the Bible says. Such is the case with Pastor Ralph Drollinger, who leads these studies in the Trump White House, and that's enough for left-wing publications like Elite Daily to pounce:
Every single week, roughly a dozen members of President Donald Trump's cabinet meet for a Bible study, according to the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, and CIA Director Mike Pompeo reportedly attend the study regularly. Vice President Mike Pence attends the study when he can, and Trump is given a copy of the scripture teaching each week, according to CBN. The study is led by Pastor Ralph Drollinger, a former NBA player and the founder of Capitol Ministries, who has a troubling history. Drollinger, who reportedly compares Trump to biblical heroes, has generated controversy in the past over remarks he's made about women, Catholics, and homosexuality.

According to the Los Angeles Times, this came just a few months after Drollinger generated outrage by referring to Catholicism as “one of the primary false religions of the world.” On this subject, it's worth noting Pence is Catholic, and one wonders if he's aware of Drollinger's past remarks. Elite Daily reached out to Pence about this, but did not hear back at the time of publication. In the present day, Drollinger seemingly has nothing but nice things to say about the Catholic vice president who occasionally attends his study. Speaking with CBN, Drollinger said, “Mike Pence has uncompromising biblical tenacity and he has a loving tone about him that's not just a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” Beyond women and Catholics, Drollinger has also attacked homosexuals. During an interview with Sacramento News and Review in 2005, Drollinger said “Homosexuality is a sin,” and an “abomination in the eyes of God.”
Um yeah. News flash to Elite Daily: Drollinger says that because the Bible says that. It's called a Bible study. You study what the Bible says. If you want study something that says homosexuality is fine, you study the New York Times or popular entertainment. If you want to know what God says, you study His word. That's the point of a Bible study.

Let's also deal with this business that says Drollinger "compares Trump to biblical heroes." That makes it sound like the whole point is to lionize Trump. I don't know if the writer of this story has ever been involved with any serious Bible study, but it's very common when studying the Bible to look at key figures in the Bible and understand your own position in the context of theirs. Other reports have said that Drollinger compares Trump to the Apostle Paul. That's an absolutely spot-on comparison. Paul was a horrible man who persecuted the church, but God choose him as his instrument to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles, much to the horror of the other apostles at first. If that's not an apt comparison to Trump, I don't know what is. The point is not to hold up Trump as some sort of icon but to help Trump learn about the role to which he's been called, and how to be God's servant in his role as president, regardless of what he might have done before. The real issue here for this guy and other leftists is not Ralph Drollinger, of course. It's that the cabinet members read the Bible and consider Jesus Christ to be Lord (which of course He is). That makes the left terrified that they will pass laws that reflect a Christian worldview. This gets cloaked in the fraudlent claim that they will try to "force" everyone else to be a Christian (as if that were even possible), but it's really about little more than favoring moral values informed by the Bible. This is what the left fears the most. Besides, government is their god, and they expect officials of the government to see it as god as well. When you worship Jesus Christ and not the government, you're an apostate in the Church of the Left. The Trump Administration is full of such people. It's awesome.
