Dan's already done a fine job of explaining why the media is suddenly so obsessed with Donald Trump's "birther" status. I won't rehash that here. All I'll do is point out the fact that, like most of their efforts to prop up their failing queen, the birther angle is going to blow up in their collective face. That's because "Birtherism" can be traced directly to Hillary Clinton's own 2008 campaign.

• It was Hillary's campaign that employed a strategy of attacking Obama's "lack of American roots."
• It was Hillary's campaign staffers that circulated emails questioning Obama's citizenship.
• It was Hillary's campaign that released the Obama-in-a-turban photo pictured above.
• In fact, as the Guardian reported, Obama's campaign chastised Clinton's people - multiple times - about her tactics.
