Almighty God’s Thanksgiving Day Little Messenger

Our Thanksgiving Day Little Messenger

He used to make every day winter appearances to us just outside our house back windows while we were still living in Goderich, Ontario. The cutest cardinal imaginable. Because of the discernible tuft on his head, Brian nicknamed the little visitor,’Spike’.

We stopped work every time we saw Spike hopping—no, actually strutting—along on the deck at the back of our house. Sometimes, the little guy would bring his less colorful wife to join him in the daily winter strut; sometimes he would look up at us watching him from the window, as if we, and not him, were the real novelty.

I have always been drawn to thoughts about God when I am in nature. How incredible it is and how mighty God must be. Growing up, my mom put me in green sweaters because I have green eyes. Green has always been my favorite color. The crayon, Sea Green, was my favorite color. I never understood why it was called that since I grew up next to the Pacific Ocean which definitely wasn't Sea Green, you know, that pretty color. Now I have seen pictures of island areas and I understand it. I love green grass, green leaves, all greens! We moved to the hills and had pine and oak trees around us. I used to sit out in our hot tub and just gaze at the trees, taking in every shade of green that I could find. The top leaf is one color, the underneath is another shade, the next leaf down is different because it is sitting in the shadow of the leaf above. I am in awe that God must have the BIG box of crayons!

So I sat in my tub marveling at His handiwork. I told Him out loud, "God, I love the color green!" Someplace inside of me I felt His response was, "I know" very matter of factly. Then I was impressed with the thought, "I have given you a love for the color green so you would appreciate all of my nature that I have put around you.."
If He hadn't given me the love for that color, would I have noticed it so much? Would I have responded to God's presence in nature the way I do? I now think there was a reason for this. I am not artistic one bit, but I can enjoy, appreciate, and relish what other artists can create. HE is the ultimate artist. He sets the clouds in the sky, sometimes looking as if He had put His strokes on the clouds with a paint brush. How can you NOT think of Him when you see the world around you. Those moments of looking away from the weariness of life and looking to Him as you see His work always being there for you to know He is in control and He loves you. He counts
the feathers on the sparrow and the hairs on your head.
Judi, Thank you for reminding us that although war and famine plague earth, HE still has His outstretched hand on our lives. Messages of hope!
