I've noticed with interest in recent years how certain public figures or notions take on a sense of sacrosanctity. These are the people or ideas that no one can question or criticize without coming in for a firestorm of pressure and criticism, which inevitably leads to the critic backing down and apologizing.
Gay marriage made the club two or three years ago. I think we're almost there with Muslims too - not clear and obvious terrorists but any broader criticism of Muslims in general almost always puts you at the center of a s***storm from which the only way out is a groveling apology.
Apparently Colin Kaepernick has now been anointed as well. When no less a public figure than Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has to beg forgiveness for calling Kaepernick out for his nonsense, the man has achieved some heady status:
