Video footage shows Schroeder jumping into action and grabbing LifeVac, an anti-choking device.
After using the device, the 4-year-old boy William starts breathing and gives the officer a hug.
"I just I panicked myself to like, 'Oh my gosh.' And then I start seeing his lips start getting purple, and he's trying to lay down and close his eyes. And I'm like, 'No, no, no, no, no,'" mother Guadalupe Romero said.
She made the comments when she was reunited with the officers who saved her child.
"The outstanding work done by Officer Schroeder and Officer Wright successfully saved the life of a young child. APD commends both officers on their swift and effective action," the Austin Police Department said.
