Monday morning, a group of a dozen World War II veterans were waiting to board Delta flight 98 from Detroit to Paris. Several of the travelers would be returning to Omaha beach for the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. When the veterans were announced over the PA system, they received a standing ovation from the other waiting passengers. ...And then they received something else.
The American flag emerged from the causeway, and Delta gate attendant Anna Marie Barile began to sing.
