The preferred term to describe Americans who became adults at the turn of the century is Millennials. While there are several dates given to define who is a Millennial and who is not, Neil Howe and William Strauss, authors of the book Generations: The History of America's Future, 1584 to 2069, are said to have coined the term and define the Millennial generation as consisting of individuals born between 1982 and 2004.
While news outlets claim that most members of the so-called Millennial cohort are situated on the left of the political spectrum, the purveyors of information usually fail to mention the Millennials serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, the nation's law enforcement agencies, and the intelligence community, many of whom fit the definition of Millennium.
