This entire speech presented a fictional reality, which makes perfect sense at a convention being held for the purpose of nominating the biggest liar ever to see the presidency
Obama: You know, we Democrats are against this dark, divided, dystopian America that Trump wants
Earlier today I talked about how the media will sometimes take their cues from Democrats. That can work the other way around, too. When the media establishes a dishonest narrative, a clever Democrat will not only run with the narrative but build on it. That's basically what Obama did last night in his speech to the DNC. While Donald Trump's acceptance speech last Thursday night was all about the problems America faces and how he would approach the task of solving them, the news media portrayed it as a "dark" speech of "doom." I guess they prefer politicians who blow smoke up your # and tell you everything is wonderful when in fact it isn't.
So Obama saw the perfect opportunity last night to not only run with that narrative but add something to it. In Obama's telling, it's not just that Trump thinks things are dark and gloomy. He wants them to be. He's actually proposing to make us more divided, more hateful, less hopeful, less united. These are the things Trump wants, according to Obama.
