Protests and demonstrations against Bashar Assad's regime in Syria have been large and growing and the Syrian government has put them down with brutal force. The regime has responded to peaceful calls for reform by beating, torturing and killing protesters and demonstrators and has made it crystal clear that they can expect more of the same if protests and demonstrations continue.
