I didn’t watch but given all the buzz, I assume the Oscar’s was an Allan Smithee production. We used to be told that movies were a collaborative effort, not just Stars and the little people. Mr. Beatty did what he does so well, he acted. The more empty the vessel the greater the capacity to fulfill the character, he is considered a great actor. His job is to be loyal to the script, he did as directed. The continuity manager was missing and the stand in was unprepared. Lighting and sound were not very good. The marketing of the finished production was outstanding, a good example of making lemonade when you are handed a lemon.
