Some months back a liberal friend of mine claimed that Kid Rock was a "snowflake" because he objected to being called a racist by the liberals at Bridge Magazine and the Detroit Free Press. That, I replied, is not what a snowflake is. The liberal friend wanted to know what gave me the right to decide what words mean.
Well. Words mean what they mean, not what you want them to mean, but I'll grant you that the use of "snowflake" in this context is somewhat new to the vernacular. He was trying to make it mean anyone who complains about anything. Kid Rock complains that he was called a racist? What a snowflake!
But the term snowflake was initially applied to college students who had to run for therapy and stuffed animals merely because someone they disagreed with showed up on campus and said words, or in the most extreme cases, won an election.
