WASHINGTON, D.C. — Freedom of expression isn’t always comfortable, but it is always worth protecting. That’s why the University of Chicago was both correct and courageous when its undergraduate Dean of Students, Jay Ellison, welcomed the Class of 2020 by making clear that Chicago does not support practices that obstruct academic inquiry, such as “trigger warnings” and intellectual “safe spaces.”
