The story of Charlie Gard is horrendously tragic and sad, and should serve as a cautionary tale to anyone who really thinks socialized medicine is a good idea. This is exactly what you'll get. Cold, indifferent bureaucrats who care nothing for the feelings of parents and family members, and disdain what they consider the use of "heroic" measures to try to save a life when the cost is rising and it would be easier to just let the person die.
Remember when liberals said Sarah Palin's prediction of death panels had been debunked? Far from it. Behold the European death panel, collectively sentencing little Charlie to capital punishment in order to make a point about the utilization of medical resources. The fact that Charlie's parents are able to take him out of their system entirely and bring him to America - and have the money to do so - means not a thing to these people. They are only interested in asserting a principle that some people are too much of a hassle to try to save, and Charlie is one of them.
