The U.S. has bombed Shiite militia forces that are backed by the Assad regime in southern Syria, a Pentagon source said on Thursday.
The forces are armed and equipped by the regime, but are not part of Syria President Bashar Assad's military. The bombing, near At Tanf on the southern border of Syria, is being characterized as a defensive strike.
