Obama speech in Turkey: We're not changing our strategy on ISIS because it's working, you know

If you want to try to make sense of this, knock yourself out:
U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday ruled out a shift in strategy in the fight against the Islamic State despite the deadly attacks in Paris last week, saying putting U.S. troops on the ground to combat the group "would be a mistake." Obama, speaking at a news conference following a G20 leaders' summit in Turkey, said the U.S.-led coalition fighting Islamic State in Iraq and Syria would redouble efforts to implement its current strategy rather than moving in a new direction. "There will be an intensification of the strategy that we put forward but the strategy that we put forward is the strategy that ultimately is going to work," Obama told reporters. "But ... it is going to take time." "It is not just my view, but the view of my closest military and civilian advisers, that (boots on the ground) would be a mistake," the U.S. president added.

Obama said the coordinated attacks that killed 129 people in Paris on Friday were a setback in the fight against Islamic State, but he insisted the U.S.-led coalition was making progress in bringing down the militant group, which overran parts of Syria and Iraq last year.
He said U.S. intelligence agencies have been concerned about a potential attack on the West by Islamic State militants for over a year but they did not pick up specific threats about an attack on Paris that would have enabled officials there to respond effectively to deter the assault. So let me see if I have this straight: The strategy is working, since after all, they were "concerned" about a potential attack. Oh sure, they failed to see it coming let alone stop it, but they were concerned! That just goes to show you. I don't know if anyone really expected anything different from this guy. The Wall Street Journal described him very well over the weekend as "a man of great ideological vanity". That's a high-minded way of saying Obama is so convinced of his own ideological correctness, he can't even conceive of the possibility that his way of looking at something could ever be wrong. Even if people are being slaughtered, it only proves that his existing approach has to be intensified, but never changed. He cannot be wrong. He is Barack Obama. Meanwhile, the French are kicking # both in Syria and in their own backyard, bombing the living daylights out of ISIS's headquarters in Raqqa and conducting 160 counterterrorism operations domestically. If you never thought you'd see the day when France was more resolved in the fight against evil than the United States, chew on this while you're at it: The president of France, Francois Hollande, is a socialist. I know, so is Obama, but Hollande actually wears the label. But apparently Hollande is willing to subjugate his ideology to the imperative to defend his nation. However much it may bother Hollande's leftist sensibilities to bomb the bejeezus out of ISIS, his first responsibility is to the security of France, and credit to him for understanding that. Too bad our president can't, or more accurately, refuses to.
