The media's go-to authority on "hate groups" is an irresponsible bunch of frauds. And Casey Mattox almost paid with his life for their lies.

And now, a word from a man who almost got killed thanks to the Southern Poverty Law Center

We told you earlier in the summer about the Southern Poverty Law Center, a left-wing activist group that attempts to besmirch the reputations of conservative and Christian groups by sticking them on lists alongside neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups, claiming they are all "hate groups." And we told you in the same piece how the media uncritically cites the SPLC as an authoritative source on who is and isn't a hate group. One group the SPLC claims is a "hate group" is the conservative Christian organization called the Family Research Council. The FRC advocates conservative positions on social issues, based on biblical teachings. You can disagree with this if you want, but it's completely insane to call them a "hate group." But the SPLC did just that, and Casey Mattox will never forget the day one guy decided to take matters into his own hands after perusing the list:
There was a shooter in our building. That was just over five years ago. My colleagues and I now know that Corkins intended to kill us. Along with enough rounds of ammunition to do the job, he’d also brought a supply of Chick-fil-A sandwiches to stuff in our mouths, to mock our corpses. Corkins said he chose our building after finding it listed on the Southern Poverty Law Center website, which labeled the Family Research Council a “hate group” (because of its support for the historic definition of marriage). I don’t work for the Family Research Council, but Corkins didn’t know that. And had he made it past the lobby and into the elevator, my employment status wouldn’t have mattered. Thankfully, Leo miraculously stopped him, saving our lives and dozens of others. (Corkins was later convicted of domestic terrorism.) Because of Leo’s heroism, I never knew the danger I was in until it was over, allowing me to forget, from time to time, that the story could have been far more tragic.

Expect more of this given the current direction of our culture. The left and its media megaphones have got people believing that neo-Nazis are everywhere and are going to get us, and they've got many people believing that if you're conservative, Christian and white, you might as well be on the staff of the Daily Stormer. Oh, by the way, if you don't think unhinged leftists are taking the cue from people like this and opening fire on conservatives, look up the name James Hodgkinson. As far as we know, Steve Scalise is still in the hospital. This is what happens when you have an entire political movement based on slander, which is what the left has become. Everyone who doesn't agree with them is a racist. Every group on the right is a "hate group." Liberals used to say that Rush Limbaugh should watch what he said because he might inspire some unhinged kook to do something violent in response to what they heard him say on the radio. But all Rush did was disagree with liberals, very entertainingly and very convincingly. What today's left does is accuse you of being subhuman and evil for opposing their agenda. People don't usually take up arms against people they merely disagree with, but if they've become convinced that someone is a racist, evil hater, that's another matter. That is what the SPLC is doing to mainstream Christian groups, and they're doing it on purpose. They know exactly what they're doing, and they know they can continue to do it and the news media will continue to treat them as credible and authoritative. Slander is the primary strategic initiative of today's left. And while I'm glad it didn't get Casey Mattox killed, it's going to get someone killed. This sort of crap always does.
