But they sure moved that Churchill bust!

Pelosi calls on Paul Ryan to remove all Confederate statues from Capitol - but they weren’t a proble

At one time, Nancy Pelosi was a very powerful Speaker of the House.  Her tenure ended as her party decided to embrace its worst instincts - a move that eventually reduced it to a small, marginalized, bi-coastal collection of far-left crackpots.  They have little or no traction in most of the country, and they’re at their lowest level of overall power since before the Great Depression.

Since they have nothing new to offer, they’re flailing around - desperately trying to latch on to anything that will damage their GOP opponents and put their battered party back on equal (or even firm) footing.

They thought they had it with the whole Nazi thing. ...And then their radical base decided it was time to overplay their hand.

Instead of simply denouncing Nazis, they’ve decided to go to war with American history.  In addition to the Confederacy, they’ve decided that Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and even Abraham Lincoln are all proper targets for their rage.

Yesterday, Nancy Pelosi issued a statement calling on Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to remove every piece of confederate statuary from the US Capitol…

“The halls of Congress are the very heart of our democracy.  The statues in the Capitol should embody our highest ideals as Americans, expressing who we are and who we aspire to be as a nation.

The Confederate statues in the halls of Congress have always been reprehensible.  If Republicans are serious about rejecting white supremacy, I call upon Speaker Ryan to join Democrats to remove the Confederate statues from the Capitol immediately.

Under the leadership of Democrats in Congress, we have recognized more women and people of color in Congress’s collection of statues, including Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth and Helen Keller.  As Speaker, we relocated Robert E. Lee out of a place of honor in National Statuary Hall – a place now occupied by the statue of Rosa Parks.

There is no room for celebrating the violent bigotry of the men of the Confederacy in the hallowed halls of the United States Capitol or in places of honor across the country.”

It’s interesting that Pelosi claims the statues “have always been reprehensible” yet she had no problem with them when her party controlled both houses of Congress and the Presidency. They had all the power necessary to remove these abhorrent relics, yet the only statue I can remember anyone moving was a bust of Winston Churchill.

The reason is obvious.  People like Pelosi don’t give a damn about statues, racism, your feelings, or U.S. History.  They’re the sleaziest of political opportunists, they think they smell blood in the water, and they’ve launched into a feeding frenzy.

If you want “reprehensible,” you need look no further than Pelosi’s shameless grandstanding.
