At one time, Nancy Pelosi was a very powerful Speaker of the House. Her tenure ended as her party decided to embrace its worst instincts - a move that eventually reduced it to a small, marginalized, bi-coastal collection of far-left crackpots. They have little or no traction in most of the country, and they're at their lowest level of overall power since before the Great Depression.
Since they have nothing new to offer, they're flailing around - desperately trying to latch on to anything that will damage their GOP opponents and put their battered party back on equal (or even firm) footing.
