'Taking a knee' is now the anti-American 'ice bucket challenge'

Remember the ice bucket challenge? Back in 2014 it was all the rage. People would dump a bucket full of ice and water over their heads to "raise awareness" of ALS, then challenge someone else to do the same. Despite my inherent distrust of the phrase "raise awareness," and general disdain for pressuring people to a cause, I thought it was good fun in support of a worthy cause. "Taking a knee" is now the anti-American ice bucket challenge.
If someone who's on your team, in your show, or a member of your Congress 'takes a knee," the pressure is automatically on. YOU had better take a knee, or you're the loser who didn't do it. It's like a poetry class full of high school sophomores, pressuring each other to invoke the 10-minute rule and leave class because the teacher was late. "They super-totally don't respect us, so we should leave." "Are you going to leave?" "I don't know. Is everyone going to leave?" "We're being bad!" "I'll leave if you leave." "Ok, let's leave." "We're sooooo sophisticated and edgy!" That's how it's been spreading throughout sports, entertainment, and politics. It's just as paper-thin, just as self-serving, and just as worthless as a classroom revolt. ...And it's being spearheaded by people who are just as immature. Here's the cast of the new "God-free" Star Trek show. ...Prepare to set phasers on "who gives a rat's #.":

Here we have Mulder and Scully from the rebooted X-Files. The truth may be out there, but they're ignoring it to make a stand against....something.
Of course, there are the politicians. Here's Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, taking a knee at the end of his remarks: ...And here's usual suspect of insanity, Houston's Sheila Jackson Lee, "taking the knee" after what we're sure were completely worthless remarks.
ay claim, this IS about proffering a display of disrespect for the flag, the anthem, and the nation. It's not about free speech, it's not about "having a dialogue," and it's not about "unity." In the words of its creator, Colin Kaepernick, "taking the knee" is a display of disrespect for the flag and the country it represents.
"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." - Colin Kaepernick
