imageSurf City, NC-Getting into the car and heading south, part of the main reason for this Canada Free Press `Work-Cation’ was to see with our own eyes the damage done to the US by a destructive Obama, like his fabled Kenyan cousin Raila Odinga, “Your Agent for Change”. All the way down, driving through 11 states, we spotted only three Obama bumper-stickers which were vastly outnumbered by “Support our Troops” ones. Wonderful Surf City was our final destination. We rolled into town late Saturday afternoon and only half an hour later witnessed this vignette: Waiting in the car in front of the main-street IGA, four marines likely from nearby Camp Lejeune were standing in front of the supermarket when a lady was having a difficult time parking her vehicle. She was trying to align her car into a particularly tough spot, a tight fit between two other parked cars.

Noting her dilemma, the Marines stepped forward, one of them directing her with hand gestures until she was safely parked. When the lady, somewhat flustered, climbed out of her vehicle, the Marines bowed. The driver began apologizing for her parking shortcomings. “You were in a tight spot and did just fine,” said one of the Marines. All four moved back giving her an sweeping flourish that would have made any housewife feel like a visiting queen. When I related this story yesterday to Barbara, a CFP reader with whom I have been trading emails since Christmas Day, she told me “What you saw is basically life in Small Town America”. It is not the life in America you see portrayed in the mainstream media or flickering from the evening news, but it is part of the unheralded life that goes on in Small Town America every day. People here, God bless them, love their troops. Obama is trying to change the world but the world defiantly stays the same. Impossible to wipe out loyalty, respect and decency just because the Lib-Left finds itself in control. A glorious history and tradition well before their time makes it impossible to radically change the woven fabric of America. After a seaside lunch, Barbara with the attractive combination of natural dark hair and green-blue eyes, gave me a tour of her neighbourhood and home. Married to her husband for 42 years, Barbara lives in a house straight out of the pages of Veranda Magazine. Her touch as an artist is apparent in the cathredraled ceiling yellow pine floored home that she helped to build some 14 years ago. When they were building their Topsail home in 1995, it was with the comfort of knowing there had been no serious hurricanes in 75 years. But in their first year there, came the deadly Hurricane Floyd followed by several others. Barbara shows the incredible indomitable American spirit in her attitude toward hurricanes. “I’ve had to convince myself that even though it’s our beloved home, it’s really just a house. And the real value of the house is not its possessions, but its human and animal occupants.” Writing about Marines and Barbara Being with the majestic Atlantic Ocean outside my window is a novel delight. That the Marines and the Barbaras of North Carolina haven’t changed with Obama in what columnist Daniel Greenfield calls a “falling down White House”, is an inspiration that won’t fade even after I’m back home.
