Showdown at Berkeley

Pro-Military Group Outlines its Demands

By OnTheWeb  Tuesday, February 12, 2008

All-Day Protest By Pro-Military & Pro-Veterans Groups Against Berkeley City Council Takes Place Today – Tuesday, Feb. 12th

The nation’s largest pro-troop organization – with over one-million members - Move America Forward (website: http://www.MoveAmericaForward.org), today outlined it’s demands for the Berkeley City Council.  Move America Forward will be leading a contingent of pro-military and pro-veterans groups in a giant, all-day, protest against the Berkeley City Council today in response to three anti-military resolutions passed by the City Council.

Move America Forward is calling for the Berkeley City Council to rescind ALL THREE anti-military resolutions they passed at their meeting on January 29, 2008.

City Council Members have discussed “clarifying” the language in only ONE of the THREE resolutions, but leaving in tact the remaining attacks on the military, including calls for citizens to support Code Pink’s efforts to “impede” the work of the Marine Recruiting Center in Berkeley.

“Members of the Berkeley City Council have said they meant no disrespect towards the members of the U.S. military and only meant to protest the war against terrorism, but their actions belie their words,” said Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward.

“If they are not attacking our brave troops, then why not rescind all the resolutions they passed calling on citizens to work to close the Marine Recruiting Center in town?  If they truly believe in free speech rights forall Americans, why not rescind the special privileges they granted only to the anti-military group Code Pink, and not to citizens who support our troops?” Morgan asked.

“It seems to us that the City Council is not interested in conveying support for their troops, but are solely concerned with trying to take the heat off themselves after they instigated a national backlash against them for attacking the men and women who serve this nation,” Morgan concluded.

Members of the media who wish to speak to representatives of Move America Forward during the all-day pro-troop demonstration, and protest against the Berkeley City Council, can reach the following Move America Forward staff members via cellular phone:
