1,878 Falun Gong arrests reported across China since January 1 2008

Chinese Regime’s Mass Arrests of Practitioners of Falun Gong

By OnTheWeb  Sunday, March 16, 2008

Ottawa - Members of the Canadian Falun Gong community and supporters will protest in front of Chinese consulate and Embassies across Canada to call on the international community for their attention and action in the wake of reports of 1878 arrests of Falun Gong practitioners throughout China since January as authorities step up efforts to “stamp out” the practice before the Olympic Games

In recent weeks reports detail door-to-door searches and arrests inside China. There has also been a reward system put in place offering up to 300-5,000 yuan (roughly USD $60-$360) for identifying Falun Gong practitioners to the authorities. Websites run by the Public security Bureau and other government agencies have openly posted notices calling on citizens to turn in Falun Gong practitioners; rewards have ranged up to 5,000 yuan. The following PSB site for Liaoning Province is one example:

According to Amnesty International, Former Public Security Minister Zhou Yongkang ordered that the Chinese communist party “must strike hard” to crush Falun Gong and other groups in the context of preparing for a “successful” Olympic Games.

Falun Gong are by far the leading victims of human rights violations in China. While “torture is systematic and widespread,” UN Special Rapporteur Nowak reaffirmed that Falun Gong practitioners accounted for 66 percent of victims of alleged torture while in government custody.

Hon. David Kilgour and Mr. David Matas concluded in their independent investigation report that “there has been and continues today to be large scale organ seizures from unwilling Falun Gong practitioners” by the “the government of China and its agencies in numerous parts of the country…” The widespread killing of Falun Gong practitioners for profit to provide organs for transplants is “so shocking that it represents a new form of evil on this planet.” This is a human-rights breach of the worst order, and demands a response on the international level.
