Need some cleaning?

Ever received any calls for “Windows and Doors Replacement” or “Duct Cleaning?”

Lucky us, we get several of such calls a day. In fact, there are enough calls to us alone to serve the entire neighborhood, for years to come.

Noise

The first thing you notice upon picking up the phone is lots of background noise. A few seconds later, when it becomes apparent that there is a live person at this end of the line, you get to speak to a real person.

Language

In most cases, the purpose of the call is apparent after five words spoken by the caller: “Can I speak to the owner…” You know right away, the caller does not know whom he or she is calling, perhaps does not even know which country you are in. My son terms it “India calling.” I am certain his emulation of the language would even have made Peter Sellers blush with envy.

Response

Depending on my mood at the time, I use various ways to end the call in short order. The laws on nuisance calls etc. don’t work, certainly not here; any requests to stop calling are usually met with even more calls.

Call Blocking

My experience also is that any attempt to prevent such nuisance calls via the “call blocking” facility of the phone service provider are fruitless. You can’t have a number blocked which you don’t know and there is no way you can find out the number. My Best Advice Hang up.
