Priebus throws Mitt Romney - and his own 2012 platform - under the bus.

RNC Chairman - Romney’s talk of illegals self-deporting was ‘horrific’ and ‘racist’

Throughout the 2012 campaign, Mitt Romney repeatedly suggested that his intended immigration plan would involve what he called "self-deportation." The idea was that if the United States removed conditions that created profit incentives for illegals, they'd simply decide to return to their countries of origin. In short, if we take away their illegal employment, they'd leave of their own volition.
Certainly, we can argue about whether that would work. However, Reince Priebus, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, has a newfound disdain for the idea that takes things a step further. Despite presiding over a GOP platform that holds self-deportation as a platform, he suddenly thinks it's utterly disgusting. "Using the word 'self-deportation' — it's a horrific comment to make," Priebus says. "I don't think it has anything to do with our party. When someone makes those comments, obviously, it's racist."

Priebus made the comments yesterday following a seminar spotlighting the party's "rising stars" - many of which support the "gang of eight" reform bill. If you need to know what the wishy-washy elites at the top levels of the GOP think about the immigration debate, now you do. They're so deeply enamored with the idea that "amnesty = Latino votes" that the party chairman is calling the last Republican Presidential candidate a racist. Never mind that all the evidence suggests that "comprehensive immigration reform" won't help the party one iota. Ignore the fact that even the leftists at MSNBC realize there's nothing inherently racist about anything Romney said. The party brass has been sold a politically correct bill of goods and - by God - it's time to ram it down your throats. Here's a thought: the idea that you should ignore criminal entry into the United States and embrace economically destructive policy because you think it will buy votes from a particular race? That's racist. ...And they wonder why the base has deserted them...
