A righteous rant by guest host Erick Erickson

Democrats trying to sue, investigate their way to power

While I was traveling today, my friend Erick Erickson of RedState guest-hosted my show, which meant I had the unusual pleasure of being a listener to the Herman Cain Show.
And boy, was it a pleasure! Erick really gave us a stunning look at a widespread practice of Democrats to gain political power across the country, which is to simply file lawsuits and launch bogus investigations of Republicans - then make sure everyone knows these Republicans are "under investigation" even though the investigations are based on nothing. A few examples:
  • The Obama Administration insists on continued probes and insinuations that Chris Christie was personally involved with Bridgegate, even though there has never been any evidence brought out that he was.
  • A Democrat district attorney in Austin, Texas opens a grand jury probe of Gov. Rick Perry for nothing than his use of the line item veto - which is perfectly legal and constitutional in Texas - to cut some money from said D.A.'s budget.

  • The FBI announces it is "investigating" New Mexico Gov. Susanna Martinez in connection with the opening of a casino and race track, in spite of the fact that she is not connected to the opening of the casino or race track.
  • Democrats accuse Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindahl of "violating the civil rights" of poor children for - get this - allowing them the choice to attend better schools.
  • A Democrat prosecutor conducts an "investigation" of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, claiming he is connected to criminal activity. He's not. But Democrats and their media allies nonetheless trumpet the storyline that Walker is under investigation for criminal activity.
  • This should surprise no one. This is the party led by Barack Obama, who tells his supporters he wants them to "take a gun to a knife fight," by which he means they should treat political rivals as enemies. This is the guy who makes it clear (as did any number of Democrat senators including Schumer and Levin) that he wants the IRS to go after conservative groups, and then when they get the message and do just that, acts like he can't believe anyone thought it was his idea. Democrats do this because, to them, political power is the be-all and end-all of life. Republicans want political power too - let's make no mistake about that - but for members of the party of government, you are threatening a Democrat's very livelihood if you take away his access to political power. He sees it as war, and that's how he fights it. No tactic is beyond the pale, and that includes besmirching the good names of people whose only offense against you was to win political power that you wanted for your side. Democrats need to win! Without access to political power, they have no idea what to do. Most Republicans who run for office and lose (as I did), just find something else to do. Life goes on. Not so for Democrats, who consider it an attack on their very existence if you try to keep them from access to the power and resources found in government. And Erick is right. They will do absolutely anything to stop you from taking what they consider their right to have.
