If you've been paying attention to the story about the myriad Jonathan Gruber videos, you've probably heard the sum of $400,000.00 bandied about. That's how much the Department of Health and Human Services paid him to trick the CBO, lie to the American people, and help pass a bill that was reliant on "the stupidity of the American voter."
Since HHS has no real money of its own, that's actually how much you, the taxpayer, paid him to con you. Unfortunately, it's also just the beginning. In fact, $400K is only a drop in the Gruber ObamaCare money vault.
So, how much did you actually pay him?
Try about six million dollars.
Let's break it all down.
Gruber received $392,000 from HHS back in 2009. (That's the initial $400k everyone talks about.)
The State Department paid him $103,000 in 2007 and 2008 for "legal services"
That totals about $5.9 million. However, if Colorado, Connecticut, Maine and West Virginia paid him roughly the same amounts as Michigan, Minnesota, Vermont and Wisconsin, Gruber's total would jump to $7.5 million.
It seems that the bigger the lie, the better it pays.
Congratulations, Democrats. For $5.9 million you managed to shove a hated law down the American people's throats, squader what little credibility you and your President had left, arguably lose the 2014 midterms, and seriously damage a whole host of potential 2016 candidates.
You certainly got our money's worth.
